Image Crediting Tips

Why do some photographers not want to send images to their fellow wedding industry friends? The simple answer is that they do not get credit for when their images are used on social media and other platforms. Below we give you 3 reasons why you should always credit the photographer, even when used on social media.

1 | It's the right thing to do. Photographers are hired by the couple to create images for the couple and not the businesses involved.  Yes, it sounds a little harsh, but it's the truth. Usually, when a business wants imagery, they hire a photographer to do a photoshoot for them so that it's their image to use for their marketing purposes. In short, if the photographer supplies you with images, please make sure you always credit the photographer as the image credit when posting the images online. We know you worked hard at the wedding just like the photographer, but it's not about that.

2 | Copyrights. Yes, not just movies and music are copyrighted, photographs can also fall under this umbrella.  Click here to read a quick summary of what copyrights are on the UCT website. Most photographers have a copyright agreement with their clients enabling the photographer to either still own partial copyrights or full copyrights to the images they produce at a wedding.

3 | It helps publishers identify possible content for publishing. When publishers, like Mooi Troues, scroll through social media platforms and see something amazing, publishers always prefer to contact the photographers directly, due to the technical aspects of publishing imagery online and also to get permission from the photographer to publish their photography work. If there's no image credit indicated, usually these potential articles will just be scrolled past.

In short! Be nice and credit the photographer.
